A little kitten ended up stuck on a daunting bridge. All alone with no way to escape and nowhere to turn, she was left scared and completely cut off from safety.
Cars whizzed by as she sat there frozen with fear, perched high on the steel structure of the Huey Long Bridge in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, towering 153 feet above the Mississippi River.
How she ended up there was a mystery, but one thing was clear: she needed help fast.
Thankfully, a compassionate passerby noticed the trembling kitten clinging to the shoulder of the massive truss bridge. They reached out to the Louisiana State Police, hoping someone could save this desperate little soul.
Troopers arrived quickly and found the kitten clinging to the cold metal. It was a dangerous spot, one wrong step and she could have tumbled into the rushing river below, as the Louisiana State Police explained in a Facebook post:
“Trooper Marvin and Trooper Himel, received a call from a passerby who reported this scared kitten on the shoulder of the 15 story bridge. The Huey P. Long bridge spans the Mississippi River, connecting the east bank of Jefferson Parish to the west bank.”
The team slowly approached the frightened kitten and brought her to the safety of their arms. They wrapped her in a soft towel to calm her racing heart.
They named this cute tabby “Ms. Huey,” after the bridge where her rescue took place. Her new name was just the beginning of the fresh start she so desperately needed.
The troopers quickly whisked her away to a nearby vet clinic, where she received a full checkup. The examination revealed that Ms. Huey had a fracture in one of her growth plates and she ended up with a cast on one of her hind legs.
And while it was a heartbreaking sight, her rescuers knewit was just a temporary setback. Ms. Huey was set to make a full recovery in just a few short weeks. But where would she go next?
That’s when Trooper Eric Alsup, Jr. stepped in. He couldn’t bear the thought of Ms. Huey spending her days healing in a shelter, surrounded by strangers. So he made a life-changing decision: to take her in and give her a real home.
Renaming her “Ms. Bridget” – after the bridge that had almost claimed her life – Officer Alsup welcomed her into his family. In this loving environment, the kitten transformed into a lively and affectionate family member, as the Louisiana State Police shared:
“Ms. Bridget is a playful little kitty and adjusting very well with her new family. Thank you for all your support, comments and prayers! #Troopers are proud to serve the citizens of Louisiana and our furry friends in their time of need!”
And so, the dangerous entrapment on a high bridge turned into a beautiful new beginning for a little kitten who now has everything she could ever want – safety, love, and a place to call home forever.
