Devoted dog stands by his autistic best friend, refusing to leave his side

Dogs are superior to people. Simply put, they are the best friends we don’t deserve but do have. Here’s yet another illustration of their superiority.

James Isaac, age 9, has autism, is nonverbal, and experiences social anxiety. Fortunately, he has Mahe, his service dog.

Mahe is his faithful companion and will always remain by his side. The youthful patient from New Zealand recently underwent an MRI scan to determine the source of his seizures, and when the physicians observed how inseparable the two were, they allowed Mahe to accompany him.

The way to the hospital is probably enough to make the majority of people weak in the knees, but Mahe has also been helpful in other contexts. Since they became best friends two and a half years ago, the dog that was trained by the Assistance Dogs New Zealand Trust helps keep James calm during all of the various outings they go on together.

According to Wendy Isaacs, who works for the trust, “there is such a magic that happens between a child with autism and the dogs, they just calm the kids down.”
